ALS

ALS - a.k.a. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's Disease - is an incurable neurodegenerative condition that causes paralysis and eventually death. Especially difficult to cope with is that the disease has no known cause, onset can occur in a wide age range, and nearly 6,000 new cases are uncovered each year. Furthermore, patients suffering from late-stage ALS require constant care that costs several hundred thousand dollars per patient per year. ALS not only cripples those it afflicts, but their loved ones both emotionally and financially.
